I have about an hour to kill while I wait for the guys from the unit I'll be staying with to come and get me. They're letting me on this computer so I thought I'd post. Uh... ya.

Korea is pretty cool. By cool I mean fun, not the temperature, which is much hotter than washington, and muggy. Today started with 6-7 briefings which put almost all of us to sleep, but I did get to hear the Commanding general (a 3 star) talk about being a LT, and it was pretty interesting. I also learned a lot of history including the causes of the current conflict. Then we headed for the DMZ. We saw so much stuff that I can't possibly write it all down. Overall it was very interesting, but also sad. A country should not be divided in two. At one point. We were right beside the border at the place where all the talks take place, and I could see 2 North Korean soldiers on the far side. It was strange to finally see "the enemy", in probably the only place in the world where the bad guys wear a uniform. Apparently although the North could cause a lot of trouble, most people are hoping that Korea will be reunited. There are a few obstacles to peace though, including that the NK leader (can't remember his name) is a jerk and a liar, who tells his people that he was born on a mountain which Korean mythology labels as the birthplace of humanity even though he was born in China. There is also the fact that Nk's focus on its military (30% of its GDP) means that its economy is in terrible shape, and South Korea (Republic of Korea, or ROK) has a very robust economy which would probably be hurt by opening the border. Anyway, it was strange and a little unnerving tobe around all the security. Bridges are covered in barriers to slow traffic down, barbed wire is everywhere, and the military seems to be everywhere. I took lots of pictures so I'll explain more when I can show them to you.

I think I truly desire the Canon Powershot A95. But it may just be that it's an awesome camera and Amazon has it for nearly 100 dollars less than normal. If I had it I don't know if I'd ever use it enough to justify the expense. But I also have discovered a love of digital cameras and to a lesser extent photography. Maybe I have adapted to working at the PhotoLab or maybe the desire has always been there. Regardless I find myself excited and fascinated by what should be boring and mundane information on compression, file formats, resolution etc. Hence my lust for the Canon powershot A95. For my needs and price range it seems from technical specifications, user reviews and comparison to other cameras to be heads and tails above the competition.

Oh and Im sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I know you all must have been breathlessly awaiting word on my life and Im sorry to make you waitso long. I don't know why I did but Ill try and make it up to you. This may be a tad lengthy. Ill start with June 20th.

The beach party day. What a day. It began with initial dissapointment with Dorothy not coming. Not surprising in the least but still a disappointment to me. It picked up a lot from there. Nothing specific I need to mention really. Bubbles were good. There was a sunscreen application train involving women. Photos were of course taken of both. At my direction a potentially hilarious and awesome picture was taken of Allen behind Sarah doing something.... Can't wait to see how it turned out. It was just fun. First time I didn't go in the water though. Just didn't get around to it.

In case I didn'tannounce it to the world I got Mana on my Voice recorder admitting I'm always right and how fantastic I am. I listen to it fairly frequently.

On a sadder note for the first time I did not win at Risk. My streak has finally ended. I really have no one to blame but myself. I trusted someone, and even worse to finish something I started, which is of course the last thing you should ever do in Risk. It is a terribly embarrassing and shameful mistake but Im man enough to admit it and let people know. The person was Elena and she ended up winning which was still good for me since one I respected her betraying me and of all the players I think Elena was the least expected to win and I love rooting for the underdog... sometimes.

Out of the blue Virginia Huynh IMed me (I always IM her which is also a very rare occurence. 2-3 times in the last year) She is in Fremont till August and is studying for the mCATs she will be taking. I'm sure she'll do awesome. But I digress.... Anyways this random event was already a sizeable number on the richter scale of randomness but it's followed by her asking if I want to see Les Miserables in SF. Now generally I hate musicals. But there are a scant few exceptions and Les Mis is one of them. For those unaware I know Gini from WeTP and Merch/Mark. Our relationship consisted of talking in both classes fairly often, going to TOGO's for lunch once and oh yes going to Senior Prom together. Im not quite sure how the last one even ended up happening but it required a hell of a lot of persistence on my part which is of course why I did it. When she said no the first time I just had to keep trying. So anyways we were close acquaintences but not really friends. So the richter chart screeches up to 7.0 at this point.

This was Friday night. Joules had just recently invited me to see Batman Begins with Jason III who had just arrived in town. Since I hate being the third wheel I said No way in hell unless someone else goes. So after we sketched out a time/plan to see Les Mis I asked if she'd like to come see BB. My treat since she's kind of doing me a favor and I'd really like to seeit. But no luck she'd already seen it. And was busy packing. On a related note why is everyone freaking packing and why does it take them hours and hours???? But we ended up making plans to see War of the Worlds today before I went to work and she and her family left for Vegas (4th of July celebration). This endedup being fine since Julia got cramps and decided not to go do anything. Luckily I checked my phone discovered I had accidentally set it to silent and had some messages from Munkey. More Risk! I said sure since despite my sudden surge in popularity I still had no plans for Friday night. Not that that's unusual but I don't like it. I went.

I was doing very well but unfortunately we weren't playing Domination but rather Mission Risk and who should win again but Elena! Eradicating the Reds before I could take Asia and Africa. In my defense I had Africa locked and was moving steadily into Asia and the Reds were by far the weakest group in the game. Anyways it was pretty surprising but I like Elena especially since the betrayal. If I have to lose she's who I would want to win.
This happened very fast so we played one more time. We decided to remove the eliminate people mission cards since they are far easier than the territory cards. Since it was Mission Risk I abandoned my usual Africa strategy to disastrous results. The game lasted a good while but I was actually the first one eliminated. Which meant Allen won the game because the prick had the destroy the grey troops card and claimed ignorance that we had wanted them removed. :-)
It sucked most for Tom who could have won the game but held back for strategic reasons, but would have gone ahead and swept the continent he needed to fulfill his mission, and won had he known a destroy the color card was possibly in play.

Im going to try and get some four way chess played next time. I love four way chess and haven't played it for ages.

Now back to Gini. I'm going chronologically.
I met Gini at the Union City movie theater around 11 am. I was like 5 minutes late and she had already bought the tickets and gotten seats. Worrier much? But it was good because we got better seats than we might have so it paid off. She also let me know then that she had brought her brother. Add some more randomness. But it was no big deal and I'm always down with meeting new people. Tony turned out to be a younger sibling. Kind of reminded me of Tim Cao. Not in behavior but manner of dress. Which is all I had to go on because he was pretty quiet.
The movie was good so go see it. But don't expect an actual war. I think most people that read this are already smart enough to know of HG Wells book and the gist of it though.

Afterwards I went ahead and tagged along to Target because 1. I hadn't seen Gini in ages and we couldn't talk during the movie and you cannot see someone for the first time in more than a year and not talk a little (unless you're an idiot) and 2. I like to go to other stores when the opportunity presents itself and check out their photolab. So I went with her we shopped a little. Candy and CDs mainly. I talked, she talked. My relationship with Gini has always been odd so I wasn't sure how this was going to be. Awkward? Intolerable? Ok? I can't speak for Gini but I thought it went fantastically swimmingly. No awkward pauses. No weirdness. It was very nice. Like catching up with an old friend though we were never technically that close. It was casual but meaningful. It was just a lot of fun. I learned quite a bit. Music and candy preferences are critical! But in the checkout counter I learned the greatest thing about Gini ever. She used to watch the A-Team and MacGuyver. And was a fan of them!

Now in case you don't know if I was designing someone of any gender, age, ethnicity, etc to spend time with certain tv shows would be programmed in for them to love and the A-Team and MacGuyver are near the top. I don't think I've ever met a girl that watched the A-Team. I was shocked since Gini doesn't watch TV anymore and I knew "Gini doesn't watch TV" only to find out she used to and her taste was fantastic! I was planning on getting the MacGuyver seasons since they just recently released seasons 1-2 and now I have someone to watch them with which is always nice. But with this Gini really hit 9.0 world shaking and changing randomness.

Friday we are supposed to see Les Mis but sometime, dont know when, I am going to get her over here and we are going to watch some MacGuyver.
