from bash.org...

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question
asked was:"Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"
The survey was a huge failure...
In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
In South America they didn't know what "please" meant.
And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant

Dorothy Lee is SO sheltered!
sweet02killer: robin and i were walking around, trying to find our classes before the start of school
sweet02killer: so that we'd have at least a general idea of where to go
Shdy314: right
sweet02killer: so, we walked by this one place called "Bonner Hall", but one of the Ns was missing
sweet02killer: i spot it, b/c i'm looking for landmarks
Shdy314: HEHEHEH
sweet02killer: and i say to robin, "hey, look! there's boner hall!"
sweet02killer: and robin starts cracking up
Shdy314: And you actually knew that meant! Amazing ;-)
sweet02killer: no no...there's more
Shdy314: im listening
sweet02killer: i laugh, too, b/c he's laughing, but i didn't know what was so funny
sweet02killer: so i asked him, and he just kept laughing
Shdy314: HEHEHEHEHEHEHE NOW IM LMAO AGAIN
sweet02killer: and he finally goes, "hahah, you said boner"
sweet02killer: i respond "what's a boner? do u have one? do i have one?"
sweet02killer: and he still wouldn't tell me
Shdy314: ROFLMAO!
sweet02killer: so we took the shuttle
sweet02killer: around campus
sweet02killer: and i'm getting pretty frustrated b/c robin won't tell me the meaning
sweet02killer: so on the shuttle, i practically shouted, "robin!!! what the heck is a boner?!"
sweet02killer: and everyone turns and stares, but he still wouldn't tell me
sweet02killer: then we're on our way to check out the gym
sweet02killer: and robin tells me that if i really wanna know, i should go up to a guy and ask him
sweet02killer: so i spy this guy walking toward us, and i'm all ready to ask him
sweet02killer: but robin stops me and says "i don't want to see u embarass yourself...here i'll tell u"
sweet02killer: so he tells me
Shdy314: Oh god this is freaking awesome. See why you needed to know what swingers are?
sweet02killer: and i turn all red and go "oh my"
sweet02killer: :-P
sweet02killer: yea..that's the story
Shdy314: That dumb bastard!
Shdy314: I cant believe he stopped you

The Sword

Robbers four from hiding they,
with fiercesome blade did rush to slay
chance passers-by this lonely way.
No price too high for some this day.

And so a traveler dusty came
along that road which had no name.
To meet before at heaven's door
dark spirits from these robbers four.

But all that seems must not so be
a mother's tears into the sea.
Did ragged coat a secret hide
or fate on such a game ride.

With movement faster than the eye
cloth & severed limb did fly.
Must all we by our hand so die
once more as dust across the sky.

Is it summer yet? Feels like summer. I have a new job. I make 7$ an hour doing yard work. It has some benefits. I don't think they outweigh the cons though. But I have steady work again. But doing yard work and then having school on top (which means night classes very likely) is not something I want to do. Or rather something I wont do. I also found out recently I can definitely have my old job back if I ever move back to Fremont. Anyone looking for a roommate? ;-) My life would be much better and much easier If I could get back to Fremont. Think about it. You'd be doing me an immense favor and finally getting out of the house. I could easily chip in 500$ a month for rent. Id go as high as 650. Anything to get me out of this place. I'd live in a small one bedroom apartment with no heat and no furniture. All I need is electricity and cable for the internet. I will live on stale pizza and water. Wow, is that sad that I actually find that incredibly tempting as long as it means I won't live here? Anyone know of a shack or something I could rent?

Ok I need to say just a little bit more on the Angel series finale after having given it some thought. The reason the finale was so great was that 1. it ended true to its roots which was being a champion/hero and fighting "the good fight" and 2. it managed to have an ending both very final and slightly openended. I won't give details to avoid spoilers to Britney and Anna. But yes. I wasn't disappointed by the series finale like I thought I'd be. It felt very... real.

I am getting a new car. :D :D

Well, new to me, car.

It is a white 1991 Mazda 626 DX. It was 120,000 miles on it, but it runs great and has a long while to go. It is a 5 speed manual like I wanted and is in great condition. Very dirty, but I'll wash it on Friday and that will be better. The really cool thing is the price: $100.

Yup. That's it. I am so damn excited. I'm junking my wonderful Jeep tomorrow morning for a little over $200 and picking up my new car tomorrow night.

To pass the time, Chris (the new guy) is picking me up in his convertible and we're going to have a movie day. :)

Oh. And school is done. Thank god.

I wish choosing a branch in the Army was like choosing a house at Hogwarts, just put a hat on and it tells you where you should go. I keep changing my mind about which branch I want to go into because there is so much to consider. How much risk do I want to have, how comfortable am I with the thought of killing people (and possibly LOTS of people in a branch like field artillery), how much do I want the skills I learn in the Army to apply to a civilian career (Nobody drives tanks in the civilian world, but a Signal officer would have lots of job opportunities). So much to think about...

And then of course there is the stuff that's just badass, like Aviation. What's a guy supposed to do?

EDIT: One of the biggest problems is that the jobs with the most civilian oriented skills are the boring ones that draw officers from the bottom of the barrel.

Either the bullet is special in some way (Like some kind of pizoelectric material with the base of a bullet so it can be fired normally but lacking penetrating power)or it simply works like a dart. Remember nonlethal doesn't mean it doesn't hurt like hell.

I had a fantastic weekend. A guy named Colonel Janker (an alumni who was attending saturday's festivities, more on that later) came and gave us a briefing friday at noon. He is in charge of a group of scientists that basically come up with new weapons or make old ones better for the entire army. He showed us some gadgets that were really cool, like a tazer that goes on the end of a M-4 (and he demonstrated it too). Friday afternoon I went to see the movie Troy with E'Lise. It was good, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it (matinee). Then... I forget what we did after that... Oh ya! We went to dinner at this chinese place that we like, and it was really good. Then on Saturday, there were 3 ROTC functions. The first was called President's Day review. It's an award ceremony for the cadets. I didn't win anything, but still had a decent time. After that (oh ya, my parents were there too, along with ec) we went to Starbucks and sat around to talk for a while over coffee. Then we went to ec's room to get something, then to my room so I could change out of my uniform, then over to a picnic that was being held for ROTC folk. After some good food, I played volleyball for an hour or so, followed by softball just long enough to hit a stand up triple and then score. After that, it was time for Military Ball, which is like a prom for our commisioning seniors. I had to go early without ec because I was part of the sabre arch team that holds the crossed sabres for the seniors to walk under. E'Lise looked great, and while the food wasn't so great, everything else was. COL Janker spoke again, and gave an amazing speech. I'm going to try to get a copy of it, and if I do I will probably post it here. Today was a pretty lazy day, and the only constructive thing I did was make a resume and apply online to nordstrom (family friend works there, might be able to get me in). I just got back from a thing called Complin, which is a service where monks chant the last prayer session of the day. The music they sing is so beautiful that when I closed my eyes I could imagine that I was in heaven listening to angels. Good stuff.

You mean DON'T have Bush as their second choice. And sorry, I thought you knew.
posted by Mikael, Shady, God 1:21 PM

Oh come on sarah. You know the answer. You were in WTP. You are just being contrary. In a two party democratic system like we have only candidates from one of the two major political parties has any hope of garnering enough support for a serious bid at the White House. Even if a third party were to win they would find it very difficult dealing with two incredibly strong political groups controlling the senate and HoR etc. And with how similar our two parties can be this leads to some close votes. especially in certain states that are heavily contested and fought for because they are swing votes. And also of course because of our retarded winner take all system. How many times have we heard "voting for the lesser of two evils?" Too many. A third party need not gather many votes at all. Just enough to tip the scales in a closely contested state thus giving every single electoral vote to the other party. So third party political platforms in America are meant to bring issues to the table of the two major political parties by threatening to split the vote. Ross Perot cost Bush senior his second term. No doubt about it. There is also the recent events of the 2000 election in which Nader directly and irrefutably contributed to Al Gore losing the state of Florida which had enough electoral votes to outcome the entire presidential election one way or the other. How many people honestly think anyone there who voted for Nader had Bush as their second choice? So if Nader hadn't been on the ballot Gore would have had enough votes that the butterlfy ballot crap would have been moot and Gore would have won Florida and conversely the Presidency. I will reserve my opinions on Bush's performance in the White House and only say that many Democrats and Independents are very displeased with it. Kerry vs. Bush will more than likely be a close race just like in 2000 so Democrats are mobilizing now to ensure as few people as possible vote for Nader especially in key swing states where Nader could very likely split the vote once again and keep Bush in office.

Genie said a loser is someone who is too passive,(and I can see that) and arrogant. Which I don't see at all. Might make them a jerk but a loser? And what if their arrogance is justified? Anyways what do you think makes someone a "good friend" and what makes someone a loser? Everyone please respond on this and I'm thinking I may make this sort of thing a regular question.

Sorry my grammar isn't proper enough for you, Mr. High and Mighty.

I was trying to convey a feeling...a mood? Show some personality?

Blah.

Van Helsing was REALLY good. Some plot failures and dialouge pain, but still good. The action was excellent. The chicks were mostly hot. Hugh Jackman is cool (with the hat). There were some spots where the computer animations just didn't hold up, but then there were many places where it was more than made up for it. I wouldn't pay $9.25 to see it in theaters again, but I'd see it at the cheap seats or rent it again. And I think it was worth the money for the first time seeing it.

Maybe I'm biased. I did hold Chris's hand most of the time.

Anna, a huge part of me is egging you on with the professor. But I know better and you know better. Besides the legal issues...this other person could work out. At least as a distraction, if nothing else.

Warning: Very long post.

I'm still really tired, so I don't know how coherent this post is going to be, but I thought I'd share my experiences on a field training exercise I went on last night to Ft. Lewis. I'll spare you all the information about planning and rehearsing for our mission (1st Platoon conducts raid at OBJ Dog at 0100 to destroy enemy personel, secure munitions, and confirm or deny the presence of "Uri Notodumski"), because its mostly 4 hours of standing around. The cool part what when I learned how to do room clearing. So, 2200 (10pm) rolls around and we set up security to wait for our foreign contact who will take us to the dropoff point. We have to sneak past a guard post, so after our Platoon leader barters with Khalid about the price we're paying him, we load up into the vans, lay down as best we can, and cover ourselves with ponchos. After a bumpy ride full of Khalid telling us how stupid americans are and regaling us with stories about his wonderful goats, we arrive at the dropoff where we disembark and head off into the woods. Walking around in the woods in the dark is not something I thought I would ever get used to the first time I did it last year, but now I think I have it pretty much figured out and I can pay attention to what's going on around me without falling. And it was such a beautiful night. The moon was at 80% illumination (according to our briefing) and there were only scattered clouds. So we were walking through moonlight forests and plains, all full of tuly-fog, and it was just gorgeous. Anyway, we get to the ORP (objective rally point) and set up security to wait while the PL takes some dudes to go find the objective (PL has to pinpoint it and confirm or deny his plan). Up until this point I had been feeling pretty good. I don't know how long we had been walking, but the one time I looked at my watch in the ORP it said 0:23, or 12:23am. "Pulling security" basically means laying on your stomach with everyone facing out in their "sectors of fire" and watching for bad guys. It was very cold last night because the ground was wet with dew, so that got us all wet, and once we stopped moving we remembered it was like 45 degrees. It was also way past my bedtime, so I dozed off a few times. Finally the leader came back, and we moved out. When we got to the obj, the support squad set up a base of fire, and the assault squad (me included) set up on line to their right. There was a generator going in the camp, and a fire, so we could be pretty sneaky and get up close, plus the ground was like a carpet. So we start sneaking up towards the barbed wire fence which is between us and the camp. At this point, the PL (who is with the assault squad) lets me check things out with his night vision goggles (we had three sets: one with the PL, one with the assistant PL, and one with the guy who had been on point during the movement) so I can get my bearings. Those things are really cool, and SO LIGHT! I swear it was no more than 3 pounds. That't not much weight for a thing that costs $8,000. Anyway, I approach the fence, and crawl through it (only go stuck once) while the PL holds it open for me. Then I start moving into the compound. I can see two guys sitting around the fire, and they've been talking but I haven't been listening, besides to note that the names they address each other with match the names we were given in our intelligence brief as the guys we're after. I get about 5M away from the fence, 20M from the fire, when they turn the generator off. Great, now we can't move. I would find out later that one of our cadets was right in the middle of crossing the barbedwire, and had to just chill on it until the fight started. I knew that the support element was going to open fire at some point, so I just resigned myself to hanging out until that happened. Now that it was quiet and I had nothing to do I listened to the two terrorists. They are both cadre members at SU, so I knew them. And they were being pretty funny. Here is one exchange that almost forced me to laugh out loud:
Shurdo Smelbad: Those Americans are so dumb.
Uri Notodumski: I know! Yesteraday I rode my camel into town. When a group of soldiers saw me, they said, "Hey look at the asshole on the camel!" So I got down and looked at the camel's asshole. There was nothing unusual about it at all! Stupid americans.

So fast forward 10 minutes of waiting until the support element lets fly. At this point, I follow the plan and assault straight away from the fence to the other end of the compound. I find a truck in my way so I just stop there and take cover by it. But no one else was following me! I still don't know what happened, just that I was by myself, which is a bad place to be in combat. Anyway, they finally caught up forming a line perpendicular to the support element so that we could assault through the objective. We do so. Things at this point got a little chaotic. The building we were expecting to be there was really more of a pile of broken wood. I was on the aid&litter team, so when word came that one of our guys was hit, I had to go drag him over to the casualty collection point. You always hear about fog of war, and let me tell you that stuff is thick. We weren't even getting shot at and we were having trouble working things out. It took me a while to find the guy, and then I didn't know where to take him because I had no building to orient myself to (which was how I had set myself to remember during the briefing). So someone had to tell me "BRING HIM HERE!" and point at the ground. So I did that, and rejoined my place on the line. The EPW team (enemy prisoners of war) was searching the dead bodies, and once they consolidated their weapons, they were supposed to put them somewhere where the demo team (me again) could blow them up with my demo charge (which was cleverly disguised to look like a common rock). I was called over to plant the charge, but the only weapons I found were one AK 47, and one RPG. I asked where the rest were and they said they were all there. Riiiiiiight. So I decide to make the most of it and put the charge under the truck where it will get the weapons and the truck. At this point we had been on the objective for 11 minutes or so (time was FLYING), so it was time to bug out. At the PL's call of "fire in the hole 1!" The assualt team headed back to the release point (the place where we regroup before returning to the ORP). At fire in the hole 2, the support team bugged out. At fire in the hole 3, the security elements which had been posted at the road behind the objective bugged out, and I said "PRIMING CHARGE. DEMO OUT," and joined everyone leaving. Now the TAC (I don't know what TAC stands for but hes the cadre who kinda controls the action) said the mission was over and called us over to the fire to talk. It turns out that we had missed a huge stash of weapons, a bunch of rucksacks and bags and all sorts of stuff. Other than that though we had done pretty well. We walked back to the ORP to get our rucksacks, then came back to the objective to wait for the vans to come take us home. As we were waiting around, I got a little more time in on the night vision goggles. So cool! Anyway, we leave. Back at school, it turns out that we are missing one of the rubber ducks (the M16 replicas). This causes MAJ Franz (the TAC, as well as a member of the special forces branch) to get upset. And when MAJ Franz is upset, people die! Well, not really. But they do pushups. And that's what we did. This morning he went back to the fort and found the weapon. Apparently it was on the ground on the objective, and had a footprint on it. I remember seeing a gun, but thinking that it was an AK47 that the bad guys were using and would therefore be picked up by the badguys. Whoops. But that means that some knucklehead got onto the vans without their weapon, which is really stupid, and then didn't fess up about it while we were doing pushups. Grr. Anyway, it was fun.

Well all right. As long as there is more than one beach party then. Multiple ones is good. Then it's more likely that for at least one of them I can make it down.

You know what Sarah I say make the beach party near the end of June.

So the Friend's Finale was a really good and well done finale. Very funny, touching and very... final I think. What do you think?

I don't mean to sound arrogant but the test is really no harder than any other community college placement test. So I don't feel a whole lot of pride for doing well. If it were the SAT or something that'd be different. But I am pleased with the score. I too hope you will come see me here sometime.

I took the Fresno City College placement test. I got English 1A (the highest there is). With that score and the AP classes I could conceivably end up taking a very very small amount of english GE classes. I scored high enough on Math it was suggested I come take the Algebra test which I will fail miserably.

X-box KOTOR is old. It came out months before. Hence it is cheaper. PC Came out relatively recently so it's price hasn't dropped.

I think I'm going to return the c&c games to amazon. Ill have to eat the shipping costs, but it will probably save me about $20. Then when I get done with Iron Storm I'll see where I am money wise and maybe get something else. On amazon, Kotor for PC costs 50 but on xbox its 30. Wtf mates?
posted by Jason 3:43 PM

You could always trade in the C&C games when you're done. Go to a good video game store and get store credit instead of cash I bet 4 would pretty much do it.

I'm familiar with PA. And I would have gotten KOTOR long ago if I had the money for it. The C&C games were probably a mistake, but its too late now. They'll be fun. This summer I'll probably get more games, and hopfully a faster processor (1.15Ghz isn't really cutting it anymore).

Very dissapointing J. KOTOR is out for PC you know. And has won so many awards I've lost count. It's the first Star Wars RPG and is also considered one of the best RPGs ever. Period. Tycho at Penny Arcade has the same feelings as me. NO true nerd has not played KOTOR. The PC version has a lot of kewl extra stuff too.

Screw the C&C games they aren't even on the same level.

I still haven't played KOTOR. Currently my list of games to play includes Tribes 2 (it's a free download now so I'm gonna check it out), then once my games get here from amazon I'll have Iron Storm and a bundle of command and conquer games. When I'm done with those it should be summer, I'll be working, and I'll be able to get some of the newer games.

Warning this post will mean nothing to anyone but J. Will wonders never cease! KOTOR 2 is official. Pure luck that I found out. At first I was terrified because Bioware isn't doing it. Obsidian is. I was like Who the Fuck are Obsidian? Then I see the names. Feargus Urquhart, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan, Chris Avellone, and Chris Jones. I hope you recognize at least one of these names J. Most likely Feargus. No? These were the main geniuses behind such games as Fallout 2 and Planescape:Torment! Feargus Urquhart for example was lead designer on both those games. Here's a link for you J. It will be for PC and X-box and released simultaneously. At least that's the current plan. I'm a little teary eyed because I am just so happy.

You REALLY suck with the name spellings, Mike. Specifically mine.

BRITTANY HERZ.

Not Britney. Not Britnay. Not Hertz. At least give me the credit of my own name in the right form if you can't give me peace on anything else.

I've heard of them, but don't know any of their stuff...suggestions welcome.

Jason showed me the Decemberists and I think they were cool, with their vintage sound.

Coheed and Cambria is AWESOME.

And I'm looking into Yellowcard, which is to have some more punk sound. :)

Yay for indie bands!

The Dogma of Mask God of Thieves and a Philosophy I personally agree with...to an extent.

All that occurs within the shadows is in the purview of Mask.
Ownership is nine-tenths of what is right, and ownership is defined as possesion
The world belongs to the quick, the smooth tongued, and the light fingered
Stealth and wariness are virtues, as are glibness and the skill to say one thing and mean another, twisting a situation to your advantage
Wealth rightfully belongs to those who can aquire it
Strive to end each day with more wealth than you began it, but steal what is most vital, not everything at hand
Honesty is for fools, but apparent honesty is valuable
Make every truth seem plausible, and never lie when you can tell the truth but leave a mistaken impression.
Subtlety is everything
Manipulation is better than force, especially when you can make people think they have done something on their own initiative
Never do the obvious except to conceal something else
Trust in the shadows, for the bright way makes you an easy target

Thanks for getting that for me Jaysen/Fenris.

Damn. I go away for four days and EVERYONE has something to say.

I'm glad you liked Beni Hana's, Jason. You, E'lise and I would have gone, but she had already made the plans when I thought of it. :)

Seattle was great. Still didn't rain, dammit. But I did get a cup of chai from Seattle's Best, because I thought I should try it, since they are are such coffee people up there. It was good.

AHH! I have Amy Brown's book!!! Happy me. I've gone through it twice and I'm still finding stuff I didn't see before. :)

Beaches are nice. I have no car though. And I have no time. Errr. But here I am, cutting classes so that I can have more time, so maybe I can work something out.

E'lise rocks. I'm her new best friend. ;)

You know if you can see a difference in skin color in under 24 hours you've damaged your skin? And every time you damage your skin your risk of skin cancer jumps noticeably. :) Just food for thought. I have no idea if that time will be good for me but it's better than any other time. End of May is better than June for me. Even if I was free time wise though I may not have the money/means. I'll certainly try to make it.

The weedeater is the bane of my existence because it is the most evil creation in existence. There has to be some engineer somewhere out there somewhere in the world that can make a better weedeater than what we've got. It's like dentistry. Shouldn't all dentists have the laser by now. Last time I went for the first time ever my dentist had the laser to use on me. Very kewl. Weedeaters should have gotten their lasers (metaphorically) years ago. Instead here I am trying to cut the weeds around my house for fire code reasons when I end up after a few minutes use having to work on the cable. That takes half an hour because it keeps falling apart and the cable doesn't stay wound etc. Then after this crap I start it up again 1 minute later it just stops. Haven't gotten it working since and I've tried/checked everything(2 hours).

Since when are you evil Sarah? How did April like the picture of you resisting her advances? :)
